Activities on 1997 World Wetlands Day in Miyagi February 2, 1997

"Wetland Schools"
There were held a series of educational classes at some sites of wetlands in Miyagi region on the World Wetlands Day. In those classes, with the help of the educational booklet on Wetlands prepared by WWF Japan in 1995, it was expected to learn the functions and values of wetlands in the field and in the room.

Classes were open at 5 sites of wetlands and 1 room [organiser(s)]:

• Gamou Coast (Sendai city) [by SGA]
  
• Kejonuma Reservoir (Furukawa city) [by JAWGP]
  
• Lake Kabukurinuma (Tajiri town) [by JAWGP & INCA]
  
• Lake Ohnuma (Sendai city) [by FLO]
  
• Nakadanuma Rice Fields (Nakada town) [by FAETK]
  
• Sendai City Science Museum

Wetland Panel Exhibition The Miyagi Prefectural Government, Miyagi Prefectural Izunuma - Uchinuma Environmental Conservation Foundation and Sendai City Science Museum held an exhibition of educational panels on Wetlands prepared by WWF Japan with their original panels on the Wetlands in Miyagi region. They exhibited these panels, in succession until the end of February, i.e.: February 2-6: Entrance Hall in Sendai City Science Museum February 10-14: Entrance Hall in Miyagi Prefecture Office Building February 18-28: Sanctuary Center of Lakes Izunuma and Uchinuma, a Ramsar Site (the office of Foundation)

JAWGP held a exhibition of posters they collected on the Waterbirds and Wetlands, with WWF Japan's panels, at Wakayanagi Post Office, during February 3-7.

Organisers settled home page also in Japanese language to inform World Wetlands Day activities in Miyagi to the public.
