Introduction to the Network Sites Biwase-wanHokkaido, Japan [ in Japanese ] [ Back ] |

Biwase-wan is a bay in Hamanaka Town, southern coast of eastern Hokkaido, Japan (43°05'N, 145°06'E), with shallow water and sandy coast, just besides a Ramsar site of a marsh the Kiritappu-shitsugen.
The Bay support 100-120 Brent Goose Branta bernicla from late February to March. Whooper Swan Cygnus cygnus, Falcated Teal Anas falcata, Wigeon A. penelope, Pintail A. acuta, Shoveler A. clypeata, Tufted duck Aythya fuligula, Scaup A. marila, Common Scoter Melanitta nigra, Velvet Scoter M. fusca, Herlequin Duck Histrionicus histrionicus, Long-tailed Duck Clangula hyemalis, Red-breasted Merganser Mergus serrator have been recorded around the Bay.
